Introduction

Modern living with a radial perspective

Project Notes
  • 4,600 SF
  • Passive solar layout
  • Radial due south orientation
  • View-focused

At the core of the main public pod, a grand stone fireplace anchors the soaring cantilevers, its solid presence a quiet counterpoint to the lodge’s expansive reach.

The lodge’s southern positioning and expansiveness allow it to fully capitalize on passive solar techniques, while simultaneously opening a sweeping 180-degree corridor that overlooks the majestic Ouachita River Valley.

The lodge’s southern positioning and expansive form embrace passive solar techniques, opening a sweeping 180-degree view over the Ouachita River Valley. Large overhangs extend public spaces outward, merging the building with the landscape. Inside, sunlit interiors shift with the seasons, maximizing winter warmth while shielding summer heat, creating a harmonious connection between architecture and nature.

The Ouchitas lodge’s faceted roofline mirrors the crystalline forms of Crystal Hills, reflecting the abundance and distinctive geometry of the region’s quartz crystals.
